Today is Social Enterprise Day, and we’re proud to be part of the 1 in 42 UK businesses using this innovative model to benefit people and the planet.
What Is a Social Enterprise Business?
Social enterprises are businesses that trade for a social or environmental purpose. Like any other business, we aim to make a profit, but what sets us apart is how we use it: re-investing the majority to further our vital mission.
Steps Tarem Services Is Taking to Make a Difference
At Tarem Services, our mission is to tackle in-work poverty and promote sustainable practices. Since 1999, we have supported employees with fair wages and profit-sharing while striving to reduce our environmental impact. Over the past three years, we’ve paid out over £23,000 in profit share to our employees and offset 66 tonnes of CO2 emissions through Carbon Footprint Limited
Supporting Communities Through Social Enterprise
As part of the social enterprise community, we like to ‘buy social’ and support others in the sector, so we encourage you to do the same. With the festive season approaching, why not get presents with purpose from Social Enterprise UK’s Gift Guide and eBay shop?
Marking Social Enterprise Day
This Social Enterprise Day, we’re reflecting on the steps we’ve taken over the past year to support employees through initiatives like profit-sharing and shareholding, and to tackle food insecurity through projects such as our Mobile Foodbank. Check out our Social Impact Report to learn more about the progress we’ve made over the past year.
We also join other social enterprises in celebrating the shared journey of using business as a force for positive change.
Why Social Enterprises Matter Now More Than Ever
New research from Social Enterprise UK shows the difference we make, not just in local communities but around the country, often despite complex challenges. Given the crisis in our economy, not to mention our environment and wider society, social enterprise is needed now more than ever – so we’re proud to be part of the movement at such a critical time.
